Happy Thursday!

Ice cream just moved into St. Elmo. Jeni's opens at the bottom of the Incline Railway today, and they're giving away free scoops from 6-10 p.m. tonight to celebrate. Get there early, because we don't think this line is going to be a short one.

Between that, a food truck festival, a peach festival, and a 100-year-old hotel throwing itself a birthday party, this is a packed one.

Let's get into it!

Jeni's Ice Cream St. Elmo

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For Ice Cream

Something sweet is coming to St. Elmo, and it starts today.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams opens its doors this afternoon at the bottom of the Incline Railway, the former home of Clumpies before Rock City ended its longtime contract with CARTA to manage ticket sales and retail at the Incline. To mark the occasion, everyone who shows up between 6-10 p.m. tonight gets a free scoop.

This is Jeni's first Chattanooga location, joining more than 30 spots nationwide including Atlanta, Birmingham, and Nashville. Expect flavors ranging from Snow Cone Sorbet to Brambleberry Crisp to Maple Soaked Pancakes, all built from scratch using founder Jeni Britton's recipes.

CPD Wants Your Kid To Kick Their Butt (Kindly)

Sign-ups are officially open for the 2nd annual PAL Kickball Turf Wars, and Chattanooga Police are looking for kids ages 12-18 to go foot-to-foot against local cops next month. It's free, all skill levels are welcome, and no, you don't have to be good at kickball to have fun getting revenge on a cop for once.

Reach Sgt. Robin Davenport at (423) 544-2841 or [email protected] for details, or sign up directly below.

The Read House Just Turned 100

Chattanooga's most storied hotel hit a full century this month.

The building's history goes back to 1872, when the Read family turned a corner of what's now MLK Boulevard and Broad Street into a hotel, on a site that had already seen its share of drama, including a Civil War-era standoff between Confederate President Jefferson Davis and Unionist William Crutchfield. The version we know today, designed to echo Chicago's Palmer House, opened in July 1926 with a two-story lobby and the Silver Ballroom still in use today.

Since then it's hosted Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, Elvis Presley, and Al Capone, plus a century of Chattanoogans checking in for their own milestones.

☀️ Weather Snapshot

Thursday     88° ⛅   low 71°   💧 35%

Friday     84° 🌧️   low 72°   💧 65%

Saturday     84° 🌧️   low 71°   💧 75%

Sunday     84° ⛈️   low 72°   💧 35%

Today's the pick of the week. Outside is warm, mostly sunny, and a good excuse to be outside for that free ice cream tonight. Rain chances climb fast after that, with Friday and especially Saturday looking like the wettest stretch of the weekend. Keep an eye on the radar if you've got the Food Truck Festival or Q 'n Brew on your list, and pack a rain jacket just in case. Sunday backs off a little, though a stray afternoon storm is still possible around the Peach Festival.

🍃 Your Yard Is Telling On You

Custom landscape and bed

The neighbors noticed. It's only a matter of time before the HOA is breathing down your neck.

Weeds in the mulch. Shrubs that looked fine in April and wild by June. Nobody plans for this. It just happens while you're busy with everything else.

And it doesn't get easier to fix. What's a quick trim now turns into a big job in a month.

C&C Landscaping fixes it before that happens. Schedule a plant installation and get summer pruning free. No extra call. No extra bill.

Stop driving past it and pretending you don't see it.

TOGETHER WITH RESTORATION 1 OF CHATTANOOGA

Your AC Is Working Overtime. So Is the Mold.

Chattanooga summers are a mold factory and nobody sent you the memo. Blasting the AC against 90 degree heat creates exactly the kind of damp, dark, condensation heavy conditions mold dreams about.

Restoration 1 of Chattanooga's local team knows exactly where summer mold hides and how to clear it out before it becomes a bigger, more expensive problem.

If something doesn't smell right, trust your gut. Call (423) 380-7584 or click below to schedule an inspection.
