Children's Hospital at Erlanger is getting $115,000 in charity money to build new sensory rooms for young patients. The rooms will give kids a calm place to decompress inside what can otherwise be a pretty intense environment. The money comes from the Chattanooga Ball Association's annual fundraiser, a tradition that traces back to the 1920s when the group first started supporting the hospital's free ward. Hospital CEO Debbie Spielman said the donation kicks off a transformation of the emergency room spaces into something more sensory friendly for every child who walks through the door. IonQ and EPB are teaming up to open the Tennessee Quantum Communications Research Center right here in Chattanooga, the first R and D lab of its kind connected to a real working fiber network anywhere in the country. IonQ is putting up fifteen million dollars over five years, EPB is supplying the live network, and the two say the project could pump two to three times that investment back into the regional economy while supporting roughly two dozen jobs. New Terra Compost is rolling out drop off kiosks for Chattanooga households, funded through a state Organics Management Grant. The pilot run alone kept nearly 98,000 pounds of food waste out of the landfill across 669 households, and the city says the program should mean better air quality by cutting down on landfill methane.
